The numbers are in: Apple has met iPhone 6 expectations and then some, selling more than 10 million phones over the product’s opening weekend.
That’s a new iPhone record. Last year’s previous record, for the iPhone 5S and 5C was 9 million on opening weekend, and that included 10 countries and territories including China. This year the iPhone 6 has not been approved for sale in China, triggering a robust black market there.
"Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier," says CEO Tim Cook. "While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible."
