A dimly lit, intimate space with seats practically within arms length of the stage provided a great venue for music as Chanté Moore fans arrived at Majestic Star Casino on Friday.
Moore is performing as part of an ongoing summer concert series at Majestic Star Casino. The series features a variety of acts ranging from musicians to comedians.
“We have this summer concert series that we started in May and the last show is the end of the month, we have comedians and concerts. We’ve had acts such as K-Ci and JoJo, Lake Side and Midnight Star. It’s just a great way for us to bring in some great acts,” said Chareice White, Director of Government Community and Public Relations.
“We don’t have a large venue, but when you attend our concerts I think that’s what makes it a much more intimate setting. Tonight we have two great shows and they’re both sold out,” White continued. “It’s a great turn out and people are excited to come and see Shante, she captures both old school and even a younger audience.”
As fans came into the venue the excitement and anticipation was somewhat palpable. Before Moore walked on stage the room was buzzing with chatter, each fan with their own personalized list of favorites they hoped she would perform.
“I love Chanté Moore, she’s got such a great voice and this is a great opportunity to get to see her. I’ve been following her for years, throughout her career. She’s made some of the best love songs, ones that I cherish to this day. This is first rate entertainment and something I’ll probably tell my friends family and colleagues about,” said concertgoer Natalie Pugh.
Moore whipped the audience into a frenzy with old favorites and even received a standing ovation for her newer material. As the show went on Moore transitioned between songs with a series of witty monologs that explored subjects ranging from current events to her personal struggles and feelings. The audience cheered as Moore effortlessly sang her way through a series of extremely high notes during her performance of the song “Don’t Make me Laugh.”
The show was not short on audience participation. Moore kept the crowd going with sing-along opportunities and an impromptu signing contest between several male attendees. The winner ended his night in chair on stage, being serenaded and singing along to the R&B starlet’s song “Baby Can I Touch Your Body.”Tags: concert, director, music
