Kristen Stewart seemed to have taken the title of her new film, Camp X-Ray, literally when she got dressed for the New York premiere on Monday night. The former Twilight star rocked a daringly sheer, embroidered black, red, and green minidress with beaded detailing, which she matched with her short, side-swept haircut and black heels. The high-fashion outfit stood in marked contrast to her soldier character’s standard issue fatigues in the military drama that’s hitting theaters on Oct. 17.

In Camp X-Ray, which debuted at Sundance earlier this year, Stewart stars as a young soldier guarding inmates at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, a role for which she’s already earned some acclaim. “In a turn that will surprise and impress those who know her only from the Twilight films, Stewart is riveting, especially in the final scenes,” Variety wrote back in January.

Director Peter Sattler’s feature debut focuses on Stewart’s character and her bond with an inmate (played by Payman Maadi) at the controversial prison. A new trailer sees Stewart’s Private Cole try to come to grips with the grim circumstances at Gitmo: We see her get punched in the face during an altercation and later try to talk down a distraught detainee who’s holding a homemade knife to his throat. “You have a girl who’s dealing with doing the right thing and feeling like she’s able to stand up to something bigger than her and not crumble,” Stewart told the Wall Street Journal earlier this year.
