André 3000 just effectively killed the Outkast album rumor once and for all. In the cover story for his Billboard magazine issue, the 39-year-old hip hop star is very clear about doing another project with Big Boi: it’s not happening.

"There are no plans to do [an Outkast album],” he said outright. “It’s not like some people think: ‘They’re about to drop this album!’ We don’t have, like, one song. There’s no trickery or nothing like that."

Technically Outkast’s last studio album was the Idlewild soundtrack in 2003. Three years earlier, they dropped the double disc Speakerboxxx/TheLove Below, which was certified 11x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Both have done their own thing since then. André has recorded guest verses with other artists, while Big Boi released two solo albums.

While an Outkast LP isn’t on the horizon, fans can look forward to solo releases from each. “I know Big Boi’s [working on his]; I haven’t even started on [mine]," André said noting, "I’ve got to find something I’m excited about."

The lack of excitement doesn’t mean he’s totally disconnected from the idea, regardless of how slow the process, Three Stacks insisted he'll always work in music. "I feel like I will do music in some kind of way, but something that can hit music from the back door," he explained. “Like, if I start to write screenplays and I want to [compose the soundtrack]. Or if I’m making certain product designs and I just want to release music with every shirt I design."

Also discussed in the interview is André's starring role in the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All By My Side, which debuts in theaters this weekend.
