The Hot Nut Riveters will perform at the free CHIRP concert in Ballard Park Tuesday, July 1.

It’ll be an industrial revolution of sorts in Ballard Park. CHIRP will host two free concerts next week — Tuesday and Thursday, July 1 and 3 — with the Hot Nut Riveters followed by the SteelDrivers.

On Tuesday, Guy Forsyth returns to Ridgefield this summer in a new incarnation: as The Hot Nut Riveters. Last summer CHIRP presented The Guy Forsyth Band with its rich Americana root sound. This summer Guy returns with a band that more closely resembles the infamous gutbucket blues group he helped found in 1994, The Asylum Street Spankers. It was a band known for its “vaudeville” humor matched with wonderful musical talent. So prepare yourself for some laughs, perhaps some groans (the humor is not always subtle) and for a crew of terrific musicians who can play and laugh at the same time! The band will be playing for CHIRP on Tuesday night, July 1, in Ballard Park, otherwise the Ridgefield Playhouse. This concert is underwritten in part by The Leir Foundation.

Prepare yourselves for old time jazz, swing, gospel and more. Most of all prepare yourself for a very fun evening. Check them out at HotNutRiveters.com and remember, concerts in July and August are Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.

SteelDrivers

Thursday, July 3, at 7 p.m. CHIRP presents, for the first time in Ridgefield, The SteelDrivers from Nashville, Tenn. Seasoned session musicians all, this group released its first album in 2008, The SteelDrivers, and its second, Reckless in 2010. As a result of those CDs, the band was nominated for three Grammys, four IBMA awards and the Americana Music Association’s New Artist of the Year. They were presented the International Bluegrass Music Association’s award for Emerging Artist of the Year in 2009. The concert has been underwritten in part by Ron Rucolas of Ridgefield Pet. Its rain venue is St. Stephen’s Church, 351 Main Street.

Four tracks from the SteelDrivers were featured in the movie Get Low that starred Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek and Bill Murray. In 2011 the English pop star Adele began performing the SteelDrivers song If It Hadn’t Been for Love in her live performances. The band has been invited to perform on numerous radio and TV shows ranging from The Grand Ole Opry to NPR’s Mountain Stage to the Conan O’Brien show.

Come start your July 4 celebration with the all-American sound of bluegrass and fall in love with TheSteelDrivers.
