DANBURY -- People of a certain age may remember sitting in front of the TV as a kid, anticipating the next episode of "The Lone Ranger" as its star shouted "Hi-Yo, Silver!"

The show's classic theme music, drawn from the "William Tell Overture" by Gioachino Rossini, provided a hero's crescendo.

Regular commercial television had just arrived in American households, and Arturo Toscanini became one of its first stars, conducting the NBC Symphony Orchestra.

Music always played a key role in movies and television, and now it does in video games, too.

Fittingly, on June 14 at 7:30 p.m., the Danbury Symphony Orchestra will open CityCenter's Summer Concerts on the Green series with a pop music program called "Heroes & Villains." The program will evoke then-and-now moments from the fictitious worlds of Superman, James Bond, Star Wars, Halo and Angry Birds.

The concert will be on the CityCenter Danbury Green at Ives Street. If there's rain, it will be moved to Broadview Middle School, 72 Hospital Ave.

The symphony will be led by its conductor, Ariel Rudiakov, noted for his extensive appearances worldwide as both conductor and violist, as well as for being a founding member of the New York Piano Quartet and the String Orchestra of New York City.

The Danbury Symphony Orchestra is a group of volunteer, avocational musicians playing under professional direction and dedicated to performing classical and contemporary music at the highest possible level.

New performers are welcome to join and may contact the Danbury Music Centre at 203-748-1716.
