Jazz Band, Chamber Singers to perform on Seashell Stage
HAMPTON — The Winnacunnet High School Jazz Band and Chamber Singers will perform a concert on the Seashell Stage on Ocean Boulevard at Hampton Beach at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3.
The Winnacunnet High School Jazz Band and Chamber Singers are the music department's auditioned ensembles for the students from Hampton, Hampton Falls, North Hampton and Seabrook. They will be performing a variety of musical styles, from Big Band Jazz to hit movie and TV titles to Guns N' Roses and everything in between.
Both groups tour to competitive musical festivals and always earn Superior or Excellent ratings, usually placing in the top of their divisions. In addition, many of the Winnacunnet students have also been recognized with soloist awards.
The Chamber Singers also recently performed on stage with Foreigner at the Casino Ballroom.
This show is a joint collaboration between the WHS music department and the Hampton Beach Village District. The rain date is June 9 at 7 p.m.
I'm Trying 5K road race benefits cancer research
Lace up your running shoes and join Hampton Parks and Recreation for their annual "I'm Trying" 5K Road Race, scheduled for Sunday, June 29, beginning at 8 a.m. at Winnacunnet High School.
This community event is being held in memory of Daragh Casey Shannon, a community-oriented Hampton resident and longtime Recreation Council member.
The "I'm Trying" 5K Road Race is open to both runners and walkers ages 13 and up; participants ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Registration fees are $25 for ages 13 and up and $15 for ages 12 and under. Race day registrations are $30.
In addition, tax deductible sponsorship opportunities are available with acknowledgement at various levels. Depending upon the amount donated ($100, $250 or $500 and up), sponsor names and business logos have the potential to appear on local race media, T-shirts, radio and race signage.
Portions of the proceeds raised at this community event will benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Hampton Recreation. Entry fees are non-refundable.

Rain barrel auction now set for June 7
The Hampton Conservation Commission has rescheduled the third annual hand-painted rain barrel silent auction for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, in the Town Hall parking lot.
June 7 is also the date the commission will be installing a demonstration rain garden at Lane Memorial Library.
The public is welcome to come to watch and/or participate in the installation, and to learn how a rain garden differs from a "conventional" garden. Rain barrels and rain gardens are two good examples of "green infrastructure" that can help property owners manage stormwater and reduce flooding.
Eighth-graders at Hampton Academy, under the direction of art teacher Dona Boardman, painted imaginative and creative designs on eight 55-gallon rain barrels. Each rain barrel comes with a brass spigot, a removable top with a mosquito screen, and an overflow hose.
The rain barrels can be previewed at Town Hall, the Lane Memorial Library, Kennebunk Savings Bank, and the Community Oven. Donations from Aquarion Water Company, Wicked Awesome Paint and Wallpaper, and Wayne's Auto Body made this project possible.
The rain barrel high bidders do not have to be present at the end of the auction and will be contacted by phone or e-mail.

New student registration for Marston School
Marston Elementary School will hold registrations for new incoming students; grade 3-5, for the school year 2014-2015. The date for registration is Monday, June 9.
Please stop by the school to pick up a registration packet and/or call to make an appointment to register your child. Parents must bring to the registration appointment; their child, a birth certificate, proof of residency, any legal documents (if appropriate), proof of immunizations from a health care provider and a current physical examination completed by a health care provider. Registration appointments take approximately 30 minutes for each child.
