Dorothy is clicking her heels into town.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage adaptation of the film comes to the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric today through June 1, and Julia McLellan will be front and center as the girl who realizes there's no place like home.

The Toronto resident received the role after auditioning while a senior studying music theater at Sheridan College in Wyoming.

"I auditioned for the director and thought it was just a pipe dream," said McLellan, 23. "I was so surprised to hear that I would actually be doing the show."

On stage since she was a child, McLellan has played Ariel in "Footloose" and Maureen in "Rent" before her current role as Dorothy.

"I couldn't imagine doing anything else," she said.

McLellan took a break from touring the nation to discuss her love for clothing of the 1970s, her fear of horror movies and more.

Worst pet peeve? Small-minded or intolerant people.

What songs are you loving and hating right now? I play Jennah Barry's whole "Young Men" album on repeat, but her song "4x4" especially. Anything or Fleet Foxes would do just nicely as well. I don't usually hate many songs, but something about "We Can't Stop" by makes me crazy. Although I do think she has an awesome voice.

Last concert/gig you went to? The last Concert I saw was REO Speedwagon at the Houston Rodeo. It was so incredible to see a band who's been around for so long and has had so much influence on pop music still up there out-performing many of the bands that are new today. Totally inspiring.

Your worst habit? Worrying too much.

Trend that has exceeded its natural lifespan? Tabloids! If I want to see what and Blue Ivy are doing on a Tuesday afternoon I'll just go to their Instagram! Tabloids are so scarily invasive.

Last movie you liked and the last you disliked? I fell in love with the movie The screenplay was so genius and I loved how topical it was. I can't use Siri without feeling a little weird now! I absolutely cannot watch anything scary or I will not sleep for weeks. So I'm just going to say I hate the whole horror genre.

TV show(s) you can't get enough of? will always be my go-to TV show. is a comedic genius and I wish we were best friends.

Favorite fashion statement? Favorite: anything that nods to the '60s and '70s. I love a good combination of a folky dress paired with a (fake!) sheepskin vest and a big hat. Actually, just give me ' wardrobe, please!

Best advice you ever got? To not look for fulfillment from other people. Find ways in your life to make happiness for yourself.
