The Sellersville Theater has been home to plenty of classy, family-friendly performances through the years. This isn’t one of the them. Cult favorite The Dan Band, which performs at the venue tonight, is the brainchild of singing comic Dan Finnerty. The act basically consists of Finnerty delivering pop songs made famous by female singers — and doing it as obscenely as possible. Finnerty first gained notoriety for his foul-mouthed, drunken rendition of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” as a wedding singer in Todd Phillips’ “Old School” (2003), and a career was born. The group has performed regularly on the talk-show circuit, starred in a TV special called “The Dan Band: I Am Woman” on Bravo and released two albums. Entertainment Weekly called the live show “one of the hottest tickets in Hollywood.” The theater is at Main Street and West Temple Avenue in Sellersville. Show time: 8 p.m. Tickets: $29.50, $45. Celebrating the little guys

Anybody who thinks record stores are a thing of the past hasn’t been to Siren Records in Doylestown lately. Or Positively Records in Levittown. Or the Newtown Book & Record Exchange. They are just three of the privately owned businesses participating Saturday in Record Store Day, an annual celebration of independent record stores throughout the world. Founded in 2007, the event is marked by special, “super-limited” releases (largely vinyl) and in-house performances at certain stores. Siren will celebrate with live music from Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band at 6 p.m. and Our Griffins at 7 p.m., and Newtown Book & Record will have performances throughout the day. The Record Collector in Bordentown will feature live music during the day, as well as a concert from acclaimed singer-songwriter Essra Mohawk, celebrating the 50th anniversary of her first release, at 8:30 p.m. (Tickets for the night show, $15). For a list of participating stores and available merchandise, see www.recordstoreday.com.

Tuneful profs swing ‘Pretty Melodies’

The Jeff Baumeister Quartet, a modern-jazz group composed of music faculty members at Bucks County Community College, plays a free concert Saturday in the Gateway Auditorium at the college’s Newtown Campus. The event marks the release of the group’s CD “Pretty Melodies, for people who dig that sort of thing,” a compilation of Baumeister’s work rendered by the composer on piano and colleagues Lenny Pierro, Paul Gehman and Mark Pultorak playing saxophone, bass and drums, respectively. “Pretty Melodies” encompasses “the gamut of styles from buoyant jazz waltzes, understated soul, deep grooves, and peaceful passages, and is capable of inspiring the musician and enthralling the novice alike,” according to the college. The event starts at 8 p.m. The college is at 275 Swamp Road in Newtown.
