1990s pop comes to a new outdoor venue in Springfield this June, while the Menard County Fair has booked a big-name country act for the first time in many years.

Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Blues Traveler and Uncle Kracker bring their Under the Sun tour to Springfield at 6 p.m. June 29. The concert comes to the BOS Plaza, the new outdoor venue next to the Prairie Capital Convention Center at Ninth and Adams streets in downtown Springfield.

Tickets cost $35, $49 and $99 and go on sale April 18 at the PCCC box office, at Ticketmaster.com.

The tour is a departure from the concerts Springfield has been getting for the past few years. Besides frequent visits by contemporary country and hard rock artists, most of the nostalgia shows coming to the capital city have leaned heavily toward 1970s and 1980s music.

However, this tour highlights acts whose brightest moments came before Y2K was in the vernacular and the Internet bubble burst.

Sugar Ray, featuring lead singer/TV show host/“Sharknado 2” cast member Mark McGrath, had a string of late 1990s-early 2000s hits with “Fly,” “Every Morning,” “Someday” and “When It’s Over.”

Around that same time, Smash Mouth was popular for its hits “Walking on the Sun,” “Can’t Get Enough of You Baby,” “All Star” and a remake of “I’m a Believer” from the first “Shrek” movie.

Blues Traveler, with harmonica-playing lead singer John Popper, is best known for its mid-1990s hits “Run-Around,” “Hook” and “But Anyway.”

After aligning with Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker has his first hits after the turn of the millennium with “Follow Me,” a remake of “Drift Away,” “In A Little While,” and more recently, “Smile.”

On July 18, country singer Chris Cagle performs at the Menard County Fair in Petersburg. Tickets cost $12. Find more details at www.menardcountyfair.com.
