Cathedral Festival: One of the area’s largest festivals features midway rides, games, bingo, a silent auction, food, beverages, a fireworks show and favorite local bands playing each day. The festival takes place at the Mission of Nombre de Dios, 101 San Marco Ave. Hours are 5 to 10:30 p.m. today; noon to 10:30 p.m. March 1; and noon to 9 p.m. March 2. The Faces and Voices of World War II: An exhibit of photographs of 30 World War II veterans, along with their stories of the ‘Last Good War,’ opens at the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, 50 Executive Way, in Ponte Vedra Beach. Photographer Thomas Sanders captured these images and stories, now presented in a traveling exhibition that will be on view through April 4.  Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. St. Augustine Orchestra concert: The St. Augustine Orchestra marks the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act, which includes Bob Moore's new composition "Someday" as well as renowned pianist Thomas Pandolfi performing Grieg's Piano Concerto. World Wide Rodeo: The St. Johns County Fairgrounds hosts the World Wide Rodeo. Starting at 8 p.m. today and March 1, the event includes calf roping, team roping, bull riding, chute dogging and barrel racing.  A free calf scramble will be for ages 10 and younger. Shrine Club meals: Johnnie and Beanie’s “famous fried chicken” will be served at the St. Augustine Shrine Club, 250 Brainard Drive. Live music: The Starving Artist, 28 Cuna St., will have live music outside the shop. Friday, Theresa and Garrett, Saturday-Jerry, and  Sunday, March 3rd for the first time, we will have  9 year old Sabrina Terracciano from Timberlin Creek Elementary School  playing violin, beginning at noon. 

 

Walk on the Wild Side: A hike will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at  Anastasia State Park, . 300 Anastasia Park Road. The walk starts out on the shoreline, continues through the sand duesand travels along the boardwalk over the salt marsh.  After an intermission at the Windsurf Pavilion, continue along Salt Run, the estuarine habitat, and through the maritime hammock.  Participants may choose to only walk the first half or the full 2.5 miles. Suggested items to bring are binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, camera, drinking water, bug spray and sunscreen.  Park admission is $8 per vehicle. Keepers of the Coast fundraiser: Join Keepers of the Coast for an evening of local food tastings, complete with beer and wine pairings from 6 to 11 p.m. at DOS Coffee & Wine, 300 San Marco Ave. Admission is $20 for Taste for the Turtles, which will feature culinary treats from The Floridian, Local Fare and DOS. Local Bold City Brewery will be taking over the taps, and Aslyn and the Naysayers will perform. Funds raised at this event will directly support marine science and conservation education programs in Northeast Florida.

Historic tours of Flagler College: Take a tour of Flagler College that highlights the architectural heritage of the former Hotel Ponce de Leon. Built by millionaire developer Henry Flagler in 1888, the hotel is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture and houses the largest collection of in use Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass windows. SATURDAY, March 1

Searle's Sack of St. Augustine: Authentic re-enactment of Captain Robert Searle's 1668 attack on St. Augustine.  Searle and his privateers sailed from Jamaica to loot the silver ingots held in the royal coffers at St. Augustine. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,  the Raiders will have an encampment set up at the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park, 11 Magnolia Ave. In the evening, re-enactors will attack the city's Spanish soldiers and colonial citizens. Beginning at the Plaza at 4:30 p.m., townspeople and soldiers will flee up Saint George Street to the city's historic gate at Orange and Cordova Streets, where the skirmish continues. Vilano Beach Sunset Celebration: A celebration of the sunset at Vilano Beach takes place from 2 p.m. to dusk at the Vilano Pier, 260 Vilano Road. The event features dozens of market vendors, live music, local arts and crafts and more. This week, a singing competition called the Vilano Voice will feature 10 local talents. Lighthouse Night Fest: Celebrate 140 years of light at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum’s annual Night Fest. In partnership with the Junior Service League's Lighthouse 5k Run, this special event is a night of fun for the whole family.  Admission to the lighthouse is free from 4 to 9 p.m. Explore the light station grounds, climb the 165 ft. tall lighthouse tower, and discover maritime history inside the Victorian-era keepers house. Fort Matanzas Musket Firing Demonstrations: Re-enactors fire flintlock muskets at Fort Matanzas National Monument on the 12:30 through 3:30 p.m. tours. GTM cultural hike: The first Saturday of each month features a Guided Cultural Hike that focuses on the Guana Peninsula’s 5,000 years of human history. The 8:30-10:30 a.m. hike departs from the Trailhead Pavilion located just west of the Guana Dam. There is a $3 parking fee. From 11 a.m. to noon, a "more than you wanted to know" presentation about various habitats within the Reserve takes place at the Environmental Education Center, 505 Guana River Road, in South Ponte Vedra The programs are free with paid admission to the reserve.
