'Weekends on the Coast' schedule

MARDI GRAS RUN WALK
Special Olympics is kicking off carnival season this weekend with a Mardi Gras Fun Run and Walk at Bayview Park.
   
The 5K run starts at noon, followed by the Fun Run at 12:15.
It will wind through the East Hill neighborhood, and end with a finish line party complete with food, beer, music and family-friendly activities.    
   
Pets, strollers and wheelchairs are welcome.
Registration is 25 dollars for adults, and 10 for anyone under 18.
All proceeds support local athletes with intellectual disabilities.

GULF ISLANDS SEASHORE WALK
Tomorrow, you can put on your hiking boots and head out to Gulf Islands National Seashore for an Archaeology hike.
   
The 2-hour walk will go through the Naval Live Oaks area and focus on how the Native Americans used the land.
   
The hike will begin at 10 am.   You can meet the hike leaders at the north side of Highway 98.
   

FREE MARITIME MOVIE
You can enjoy a free movie and fireworks at the Pensacola Bayfront Stadium this Saturday night.

That's also the day tickets for the exhibition game go on sale.
The Cincinnati Reds will take on the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on March 28th.
   
On Saturday, you can buy tickets to that game and enjoy the Jackie Robinson baseball movie "42" on the stadium's video board.
   
The movie starts at six, and afterwards there'll be a fireworks show.

SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK
If you ever sing your multiplication tables, you probably have 'schoolhouse Rock' to thank for it.
  
And the man who wrote those songs is still inspiring students.
Bob Dorough: "Ready and count. Five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, thirty, thirty-fiiiive"
  
Bob Dorough played and sang some of those Schoolhouse Rock hits today for students at the Montessori School of Pensacola.
  
He wrote more than two dozen songs for those Saturday morning shorts.
  
Dorough is also an accomplished jazz musician.
He's also performing tonight and tomorrow night at 7 at the New Picasso's Jazz Club on Palafox Street downtown.
  
  
BEATLES TRIBUTE BAND
50 years ago today the Beatles came to the United States for the first time!

And you can celebrate here on the panhandle, but checking out the Beatles tribute band "Not Quite Fab"
   
The will be celebrating the anniversary with a concert at the Days Inn and Suites Conference Center in Navarre tomorrow from 7 until 11.
   

KILN WALK FESTIVAL
Artists who work with clay are learning more about their craft and showing off their creations this weekend.
  
The Gulf Coast Clay Conference is going on at the Anna Lamar Switzer Center at Pensacola State College.
  
The Kiln Walk Society wrapped up three days of workshops, exhibits and demonstrations today.

William Clover, PSC Art Professor: "We give 'em workshops on various types of pots, bigger pots, little pots, different kinds of stuff, sometimes on glazes."
  
Tomorrow works by their guest artist and local potters will be unloaded from a large wood-fired kiln in Holley-Navarre.
  
Hundreds of pots and other works baked there for a week.
The unveiling is part of the Woodstoke Pottery and Kiln Festival.
  
That's going on from nine to four at 7507 Buckeye Drive.
