Stunning black-and-white Detroit cityscapes set the tone of a new Red Bull ad featuring native Detroiter and artist Tylonn Sawyer.
The 30-second spot, which also features some of the people Sawyer has painted (including local gallery owner George NNamdi), is one of two Red Bull commercials scheduled to run in major markets during Sunday nights Grammy Awards telecast.
Sawyer unveiled a series of oversized portraits of Detroiters last spring during a gallery opening at Detroits Red Bull House of Art. He was one of eight individuals selected to participate in the fourth cycle of an ongoing Red Bull program that offers promising artists an opportunity to be collaborative and push creative boundaries while working for a limited time at the House of Art.
Sawyer described the TV ad as beautifully shot after viewing it earlier this week. It will run on 10 networks and cable channels through March 2. The Red Bull campaign also includes a 75-second version of the commercial and a multimedia story written by Ryan Patrick Hooper, creative director of Pure Detroit. You can view them at givesyouwings.redbull.com. The Detroit campaign is part of a series that features athletes and individuals from various cities.
The Red Bull House of Art is at 1551 Winder in Detroits Eastern Market area. For more info, go to redbullhouseofart.com.
